The Wings Track Club of Texas is one of the nation's leading and most successful track and field organizations. Mr. Curtis Terrel founded the club in 1977 out of the need to assist young persons, who were interested in organized track and field competition on local, regional, and national levels.
The club operates year round, with the Base Training from January to March and the Competition season from March to July. Wings Track Club has an enrollment of approximately 190 to 250 athletes. Other programs include a fall track and field clinic that is offered to track and field athletes, soccer, baseball and athletes who are interested in improving their agility and speed.
Wings Track Club's programs are offered to individuals between the ages of 6 to 18 years old. Much of Wings' success is due to the educational and social experiences the young athletes gain through interacting with other boys and girls from varied social and economic backgrounds.
The Wings Track Club is a non-profit corporation, which uses the Fort Bend County's Willowridge High School facility for practice.
Through the programs, club members have gained invaluable track meet experience traveling throughout the State of Texas and the United States for national meets. The Club is the oldest track club in the Houston area and the second oldest in the State of Texas. The club is a sanctioned member of the U.S.A. Track and Field (USATF) organization and participates in track events through the Gulf Association and Region 12 of the USATF. Since its inception, the club has represented, annually, its Association and Region at USATF National Junior Olympics held at various sites around the country.
Wings have a dedicated staff of volunteer coaches and administrators, whose desire is to see the inexperience athlete develop into a competitive high school athlete.
Wings athletes continue to flourish in college and several are currently competing with Scholarships at various colleges. |
